Map vs. Territory: A Live Working Session for Closing the Gap Between the Plan and What’s Really Happening

Two sixty-minute live video sessions, ten seats each, built around your organization’s true situation instead of a hypothetical one.

Naming the Gap: Oct 6 & Jan 14 · Prioritizing Alignment: Oct 13 & Jan 21 · October at 1PM Central, January at Noon Central, live video sessions
Each session is capped at 10 seats. Past that, it stops being a working conversation and turns into a lecture.

You already know something’s off. This is where you find out what.

The strategic plan says one thing. The way your organization really runs says another. Most leaders feel that gap long before they can name it, and most fixes aimed at “engagement” or “alignment” never get close enough to the actual mechanism to close it.

This series is for executive directors, COOs, operations directors, and chiefs of staff who need a working diagnosis, not another framework to read about. You’ll leave each session with something concrete about your own organization, not a worksheet you’ll never open again.

Two Sessions, Sequential

Attend either one on its own, or both as a pair. Each is a full session, not half of one.

Why Only Ten Seats

It’s a working session, not a webinar

Ten people means everyone gets time with their actual situation on the table. Sessions sell out. If the date you want is gone, join the waitlist or ask about a private team session.

Bringing Your Whole Team?

If you want your full leadership team in the room together, working the same material at the same time, book a private team session instead of individual seats. Same format, same ten-person room, priced for a team rather than a stack of individual tickets at a time that works for everyone.

Ask About a Private Team Session

One session, up to 10 seats $1,250
Both sessions, up to 10 seats $2,000

About the Facilitator

Melissa Pierce works with nonprofit and mission-driven leadership teams on the operational gap between strategy and execution: structure, communication, and the systems that either back up what an organization says it prioritizes or contradict it in practice. The Map vs. Territory framework grew out of that work, built for leaders who need a working diagnosis of their own organization, not a general theory of one.

Questions Before You Register

What if I can’t make the live date?

Registration includes the session recording, so a scheduling conflict doesn’t cost you the material. The live discussion itself only happens once, with these ten people, and that’s the part a recording can’t replace.

Do I need to attend Part 1 before Part 2?

It helps but isn’t required. Part 1 names the gap in your organization; Part 2 prioritizes and acts on it. Most people get more out of Part 2 having done Part 1 first, but each session stands on its own.

Is this a webinar or an actual discussion?

A discussion. There’s a short framework walkthrough at the start of each session, then the rest of the time is working real examples from the people in the room, including yours if you bring one.

What if both sessions are full?

The framework is also available as a self-paced kit, worksheets and recorded walkthrough included, if the dates don’t work or the room fills before you register. Details here.

What do I need to attend?

Just a good internet connection, an open mind, and a browser. Worksheets are provided digitally before the session, and it helps to have a real example from your own organization in mind, though it’s not required.

What’s your cancellation or refund policy?

Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance are entitled to a full refund.
